So you want to collect scrap metal…whether it be a new hobby, something you’re looking into for side cash or a full-time gig, the question remains the same.. where are the best places to find scrap metal?! Look no further.. we’re here to help!
Here’s some of the best places you can look for scrap metal:

- Side of the road– Many people are just looking to get rid of their old scrap, and don’t have the knowledge or time to recycle for CASH at a scrap yard. Here’s where you can benefit- simply drive around local neighborhoods during “high seasons” such as spring/fall cleanup and see what’s lying around. You may be surprised what you’re able to take off someone else’s hands, on the side of the road marked ‘free’.
- Craigslist– There’s been a lot of buzz over the years about the safety of this process, so we caution you to use your best judgement when inquiring, and always travel in pairs if you’re unsure. That being said, Craigslist has a “free” section on their search engine where local folks will post items that they’re ready to part with, which can be profitable for a scrap metal recycler!
- Facebook Marketplace– Over the past couple years, Facebook Marketplace has become a hub for buying and selling used furniture, cars and more! Why not get in on the action and start your hunt for items that can be brought to one of our yards. You can also search by filtering, “free” in the search. - Local Businesses– One of the most profitable places you’re going to find scrap metal is through gaining relationships with local businesses in your area-such as auto body shops, mechanic shops and various contracting companies. Many businesses won’t jump at the opportunity to just give away valuable materials, but there may be room for negotiating to help get it off their hands- one possible route may be splitting the profits for removal, or ordering one of our dumpsters for pickup, and sharing a portion of the profits that route (call and we’ll haul) i.e. Get Creative!
- Farms/Ranches– With permission, this could be a gold mine for finding old machinery, steel piping and framework. Forming a relationship with the owners and helping them remove heavy, retired equipment could put a pretty penny in your pocket. If the need for rolloff container onsite for convenience, we’d be happy to deliver a 20, 30, or 40 ft. container! Call for details.
There are many places where scrap metal could be sitting, waiting for an opportunity to be recycled and hauled away. We urge that you do so lawfully and with consent in any situation. We are very aware of theft and work diligently to keep our business away from these scenarios. We will report any suspicions of unlawful scrap collections we encounter.
